Dunk Island is part of the Family group of islands, located approximately four kilometres off the Tropical North Queensland coast, midway between Townsville and Cairns. It is Australia's most beautiful tropical rainforest island in terms of its lush vegetation and about three quarters of the island is designated as a National Park.

The dense virgin rainforest is home to a huge variety of native flora and fauna, including 150 species of birds, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. It is also home to the stunning electric blue Ulysses butterfly, which is the island's famous symbol. With a wingspan of up to 10 centimetres it is one of the largest butterflies in Australia, and certainly the most beautiful.
There are so many activities to choose from that it's hard to decide what to do next. For the nature lovers take a rainforest walk and experience the spectacular views from the summit of Mt Kootaloo, the island's highest point at 271 m above sea level, and explore the National Park walking trails through the rainforest. You can try water skiing, kayaking, snorkelling, tennis, squash, horse riding on the beach, and fishing.
Of course you will have to visit the Great Barrier Reef too. The outer reef is just 50 minutes away via a catamaran that operates daily. At Beaver Cay you can snorkel or view coral gardens and marine life from a glass bottomed boat or semi-submersible craft, and the scuba diving is fantastic. The island's fringing reefs and surrounding waters are home to a variety of marine life including sea turtles, dugongs, crabs, fish, shellfish and corals.
