Planning For An Overseas Honeymoon

International Honeymoons>>

Planning for a honeymoon is often the best part of the wedding planning process because it’s planning for the first holiday as a new couple. Planning for an overseas honeymoon is a little bit more complex, but still a lot of fun. There are things to consider with an overseas trip that you wouldn’t think about for a trip in Australia.

If you don’t have a passport you should apply for one at least two months before your wedding. It can take several weeks to get visas for some countries so allow plenty of time. If you are going on the honeymoon straight after the wedding ceremony, your passport will have to be in your maiden name. Official documents can’t be issued in your married name until the wedding has taken place.

Vaccinations and preventative medicines are required for some destinations and you should see your doctor at least two months before your wedding so that these can be planned. For instance a course of malaria pills may have to be taken for four weeks before departure. You should also make sure you have enough prescription medications for your trip, including any contraceptives medicines.

Let people know you are honeymooning when you are making your bookings. This will often get you upgrades or extras you would not otherwise get.

Be prepared for jet lag when you move to a different time zone. You can help minimize this by keeping your body hydrated during the flight, and by having at least two nights good sleep before you travel. Don’t organise to do too much for the first two days of your honeymoon, to allow your body clock time to adjust.

Be careful of what you eat and drink in other countries. In developing countries it is best to avoid tap water and only drink bottled water, and be aware that hygiene standards in food stalls may be very low. You can avoid stomach upsets by being careful about what you consume.

Research the culture and learn some key phrases of the country you are visiting. You may even want to take language classes or buy an instructional language CD.

Be thorough in your planning so that you have no last minute panics, and can enjoy your overseas honeymoon without a care in the world.
