Wedding Care For Your Hands and Nails

The wedding ceremony is a very special and important occasion so you want everything to be perfect. As part of your wedding planning make sure you have time to get you hands and nails looking their best, as they receive a lot of attention on your wedding days as friends admire your wedding ring and watch your hands as you cut the cake.

The photographer will also take photos of the newly-weds holding hands and showing off their rings, as well as close-ups of the bouquet which will also show your hands.

Hand and nail care should start several weeks before your wedding, if it is not already part of your beauty care regime. Eat sensibly, avoid junk food, and take a daily vitamin and mineral supplement if your nails are brittle and flaky. Use a good quality hand and nail cream morning and night and have regular manicures. You can do this yourself, but may choose to have your final manicure with a professional just before the big day.

If you don’t normally have long nails then it is not a good idea to try and grow them long for you wedding day because you will invariably have one or more break on you which means you will have to shorten the others to get them even. It is best to keep them reasonably short, but in tip-top condition. You might decide that false nails are best for you.

If you are outdoors a lot you should wear gloves in the sun and when working in the garden – it might feel silly but it is only for a short while, while the wedding shots of your hands will last for your lifetime. Buy a nail strengthener which will give strength and shine to your nails.

Decide whether you want your nails natural-looking or coloured. Take into account the colour of your gown and your bouquet and what you think will look best. Natural looking nails can be coated with clear varnish to give them strength, or you can go for a French manicure style with pale pink nails with the white of the nail accentuated.

Also decide what shape you want your nails – tapered, blunt, squared-off, or the latest trend.

Prepare your nails either the night before or the morning of your wedding. If you are wearing acrylic nails; make an appointment with your manicurist the day before your wedding.

By the time the ceremony comes around you will be proud of the state of your hands and nails and keen to have them in lots of close-up shots.
