What should a Chief Bridesmaid do?
Honeymoon Gift Vouchers>>
The chief bridesmaid is usually someone very close to the bride, who can provide a lot of support and assistance leading up to the wedding and on the day. She is known as the maid of honour if she is single, and the matron of honour if she is married. The chief bridesmaid plays a big role on the wedding day helping the bride get ready and helping to calm her nerves. She walks down the aisle behind the bride and takes her bouquet prior to the ceremony. You need someone who is reliable, competent and a trusted friend.
The responsibilities of the chief bridesmaid can include any of the following:
Before the wedding:
Helping with writing invitaions and addressing envelopes
Helping to prepare wedding favours if you are making your own
Helping to select the bridesmaids’ outfits
Offering advice on the bride’s gown and flowers (but only if invited to do so)
Organising and attending the hens’ party; and making sure the bride gets home safely
Taking part in a dress rehearsal.
On the wedding day:
Helping the bride get ready and put her gown on
Making sure the bridesmaids and any young attendants know what to do at the ceremony and have their flowers
Check the brides hair and make-up
Arriving at the ceremony ahead of the bride and helping to arrange her dress and veil before the procession starts
Help lift back the bride’s veil at the end of the procession
Holding the brides bouquet during the ceremony
Signing as witness to the wedding register and marriage certificate
Partnering the best man to the signing of the register and when leaving the ceremony venue
Take part in the formal photography session
At the reception
Helping the best man welcome the guests
Making a speech, if required.
Handing wedding cake out to the guests
Helping the bride change into her going-away outfit and looking after her gown.
After the wedding:
Look after the bride’s wedding clothes and bouquet
Being chief bridesmaid for a good friend is a real honour. The chief bridesmaid customarily says a few words after the wedding toast of the best man. Ideally it should be a memorable story of the bride.
